La « Lettre à mes amis peintres » de Jacques Stephen Alexis débroussaille toute une série de questions qui sont des présupposés pour la création d'une peinture nationale dont l'enjeu est l'émancipation politique et sociale de notre peuple. Une tâche nécessaire est l'auto-organisation des peintres. Il montre en exemple l'expérience des peintres progressistes et socialistes mexicains qui, après la révolution de 1910, ont donné au monde cette création picturale nouvelle, originale et révolutionnaire : la pintura mural (la peinture murale), la matérialisation du nouveau réalisme mexicain symbolisé par des peintres connus mondialement comme Diego Rivera, David Alvaro Siqueiros, Clemente Orozco, Frida Kahlo, etc. Préface Yves Dorestal
